Hitomi KANEKO金子仁美(1965, Tokyo)
Contemporary composer and professor
Born in Japan in 1965, Ms. Kaneko graduated from the composition class at Toho Gakuen School of Music in 1988, and completed postgraduate studies in 1994. She went to study in France with a French Government scholarship in 1990. She then began to study at the Paris Conservatoire. She also attended the Summer Music Festivals in Avignon and Darmstadt with scholarships in 1992. In September 1997, she went to Paris to study at IRCAM. Hitomi Kaneko was born in Tokyo. While she was attending Toho Gakuen School of Music, she went to Paris where she was the recipient of a scholarship from the French government to study at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de danse de Paris with Gérard Grisey. She won 1st Prize in the Concours composition of Japanese-French contemporary music in 1988, 1st Prize in the 59th Music Competiton of Japan in 1990, won the UNESCO Composer Conference award and Muramatsu Award. In 1994, she became IRCAM Trainee, and in 2011, went to the 4th university of Paris as an guest researcher due told by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. She has also been commissioned by several Foundation and Orchestra including Suntory Foundation for Arts, Takefu International Festival, Music From Japan, NHK Symphony Orchestra Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa. Her works were published by Zen-on Publishing Company, and her CDs are released by Deutsche Grammophon, Fontec etc. She has been a lecturer at Tokyo National University of Fine Art and Music(Geidai) for the 2014-17. Currently, she has held a regular teaching post as professor of composition at Toho Gakuen School of Music and an guest researcher-teacher at the 8th university of Paris.
